Ich habe Fotos ausgewählt, weil ich gerade dabei bin Fotos für meine Malereiprojekte zu sortieren, aber auch, weil das Foto den aktuellen Zustand verdeutlicht: Aufgespannt zwischen Vergangenheit und Gegenwart steht es für Bewegung und Nähe aber auch für Stillstand und Distanz.
Eine Distanz, die mich dieser Tage besonders bewegt, ist die Entfernung zu Freunden, Miek Zwamborn und Rutger Emmelkamp, die vor wenigen Jahren an den äußersten Rand von Europa gezogen sind, auf die Isle of Mull (innere Hebriden), um dort einen Artist-Space zu betreiben: Knockvologan Studies.
Einen Eindruck ihrer speziellen Situation sollen die Auszüge aus der Mail vermitteln:

Dear Manuel,

Nice to hear from you. ….
We are fine but Mull is weirdly quiet. The Island is closed for visitors and we can’t get off. So no guests, no projects.
We make plans for next year and work in the garden as much as possible. We don’t count on anything to happen this year. We’ll see.
We don’t know when they will open the Island. Some talk about end of August. So sad you can’t come. We were very much looking forward.
How is life in Freiburg?

I made some progress in the barn and M. is writing quite a bit. Here are some pictures.

The new garden is promising but there is nothing to harvest yet. We pick as much things from the wild.

I’m making a beehive and there is a small chance we’ll get a swarm this year.
We are lucky to be able to focus on these beautiful things but everything tastes a little bitter now and then. I’m quite stressed these days about all the uncertainty and possible post-corona scenarios.

The best is to focus on things we can influence, so we try hard to simply be here and stay in touch with what’s around us. Not easy somehow. …
